History of the Garden of the Gods

Obviously, the “Garden” has been here for ages and ages. Talking about the age of the formations has gotten me in trouble a time or two. So, suffice it to say that the rocks are really, really, really old. And getting into the formation timeline puts us out of history and into geology. That’s a topic for, well, another topic.

So, let’s talk about the history of the Garden of the Gods as the story of Man in the Garden. But no prehistoric man discussion either. We’ll start with the Indians, walk through the Pioneers and Silver Rush.  Then on to how the Garden came to be a city park and even touch on the Waldo Canyon Fire of 2012.
