The Scotsman formation isn't one of the big honkin' formations in the park. In fact, it may be the "smallest." But let's not discount the old guy.
What he lacks in size, he makes up for in imagination. He even has the classic pom-pom on his tam.
The Scotsman is located outside the main garden. If you come in the main road, wind around past the main north parking lot, pass the incredible photo op lookout, and keep driving south, you’ll come to a fork in the road.
Take the right fork. And look for the Scotsman Picnic Area. This is one of two picnic areas in the park and it has been recently upgraded with more picnic tables. It is my preferred picnic spot. More scenic than the other one.
There’s a fun story about the bathroom at the Scotsman Picnic Area. One day a bear wandered into the bathroom, looking for a drink of water. The toilets in this bathroom are automatic flush. Every time the bear would take a drink, the toilet would flush and scare the poor bear silly. He’d come running out of the bathroom, think a bit, then head back for more to drink. Spectators said this went on for nearly an hour.
This would have been a black bear. That’s what we have in the park.
I hope you’ll take time to stop and have a little picnic here. It’ll be great! (Note the wonderful Scots accent I just used.)
