The Air Force Academy is a premier military academy for officers in the US Air Force. The campus is located just north of Colorado Springs and is open for visitors.
There are two types of “tours” of the Academy. One is for prospective applicants and the other for sightseers.
Prospective applicants can get a guided tour of the academy with an admissions briefing and a two-hour walking tour. Escorted tours are conducted Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays during the academic year - September through May. Reservations are required for this tour and you can register online here.
For sightseers, there is a self-guided tour of the Academy. Visitors must enter the North Gate (Exit 156B on I-25.) All adult visitors will be required to show their driver’s license to the guard and have their vehicle inspected.
The Academy Visitor’s center boasts thirty-one thousand square feet of exhibits, theater, snack bar and gift shop. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Maps and information are available at the front desk.
The Visitor Center phone number is 719-333-2025.
The theater hosts a 20-minute movie that is shown throughout the day. Shown every 30 minutes - no charge.
