Exploring the Cave of the Winds is nothing like it was when I was a kid. I remember going into a cave, learning the difference between stalactites and stalagmites, having them turn off the lights and experiencing “can’t see my hand in front of my face” for real, and that’s about it.
Well, the Cave of the Winds is now an even more all-encompassing experience.
Yes, there’s still the cave bit. In fact there are three - count ‘em - three different cave tours available.
The Discovery Tour
- this is an easy walking tour for families and beginning spelunkers.
You’ll explore the winding paths inside the mountain, learn a little
history and geology. The tour lasts 45 - 60 minutes.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket.
Ages 0-5 Free
Ages 6-12 $15
Ages 13 & Up $22
Military Families - 10% discount
The Lantern Tour
- this tour is more rugged. You’ll explore deep withing the caverns,
experiencing the excitement of past explorers. The only light will be
from the lanterns you carry. This tour lasts 90 minutes and is great
for the more adventurous.
Wear good walking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and bring that light jacket.
Ages 0-5 Children 6 & over only
Ages 6-12 $20
Ages 13 & Up $32
Military Families - 10% discount
And then there’s the Caving 101 tour
- This is a great adventure! You’ll climb and crawl through rugged
caverns with only a flashlight. This tour is only available on certain
dates throughout the year. You’ll need reservations. Call for more
information and what you’ll need to bring.
This tour is only available for ages 13 and up. Tickets are $49.
Pioneer Package - This is a great one for families. Includes Wind Walker Challenge Course, Bat-A-Pult, Cliff Hanger Climbing Wall, Geronimo’s Leap, and Magic Lantern Virtual Reality Theatre.
Explorer Package - This package includes all the above ground adventures PLUS the TERROR-dactyl! Includes Wind Walker Challenge Course, Bat-A-Pult, Cliff Hanger Climbing Wall, Geronimo’s Leap, Magic Lantern Virtual Reality Theatre, and a single ride on the Terror-dactyl with a reservation.
Mountain Man Package - Oh my gosh - this is the ultimate package - take the whole day. It's like adding whipped cream to the already awesome cake.

Now remember - when I was a kid, the caves were it. Not anymore!! Holy moley!
For the truly bold, there’s the Terror-dactyl
- the ride that launches you off the cliffs and slings you out over the
canon and crazy speeds. Can you say G-Forces? The question will be -
can you do this with your eyes open? You must be at least 48” tall and
between 100-250 pounds. Ages 12 and up - Check the package prices above.
A tamer and more friendly version of this ride is the Bat-A-Pult
- a ride that sends you into the skies above Williams Canyon at a bit
more reasonable speed. You must be 48” tall to go on this ride. Check prices in the packages above.
The Windwalker Challenge Course is 3-story obstacle
course. It’s a mix of ropes and ladders and mazes. For those 48” or
taller and under 300 pounds. You’ll need real shoes for this - not
something that can fall off easily. Check prices on the packages above.
That’s not all the Cave of the Winds offers.
You can pan for gemstones, enter the Time Freak life-size arcade game, shop for gifts and snacks, or have an ice cream.
The newest addition to the above ground thrills has you zipping over 1/4 mile and 80' high. This is part of the Via Ferrata Canyon Tour but can also be purchased separately. Pricing: $65 Ages: 12+ (Ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult) Height 48" to 6'6". Weight 90 pounds to 250 pounds.
This package is not for everyone. But it's a doosey! A combination of outdoor climbing and zipping! You'll never forget this one. Pricing: $99 Ages 12+ (Ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult) Height 48" Weight: 90 pounds to 260 pounds.
Live dangerously - virtually. This thrilling ride is included in all the above ground packages. Great for families! Height 42"+ 48" to ride alone.
